Rick is President and Chief Executive Officer, a Director of Northern Trust Corporation and a member of the Management Group at The Northern Trust Company, Chicago. The heads of Northern Trust's principal operating businesses, Personal Financial Services, Corporate & Institutional Services, Worldwide Operations & Technology and Northern Trust Global Investments report to Rick. Also reporting to him are the heads of Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Auditing, Corporate Strategy, Risk Management and Legal.

Since joining Northern Trust in 1975, he was named a Financial Services Officer in 1978, a Second Vice President in 1980, and a Vice President in 1983. He has had management responsibility in the Commercial Banking Business Unit for energy companies and large corporate business in the western United States as well as large corporations located in Chicago. Rick became responsible for Strategic Planning and Corporate Marketing in September, 1989, and was named a Senior Vice President in December, 1989.

In September, 1991, he was named Executive Vice President for Northern Trust Bank of California with responsibility for the Los Angeles and Westwood offices as well as the investment management and real estate functions. Rick had management responsibility for Northern's Wealth Management Group from October, 1994 to March, 2003. He was named an Executive Vice President in September, 1997, and became head of Corporate and Institutional Services in March, 2003.

He was named President and Chief Operating Officer in February, 2006 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer on January 1, 2008.

He earned a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and a master's degree in business administration from Northwestern University. He has served on various boards including, chairman of the Board of Trustees, Kohl Children's Museum of Greater Chicago; Board of Trustees, The Art Institute of Chicago; member, Financial Services Roundtable; board member, Executives' Club of Chicago; member, the Commercial Club of Chicago; member, The Economic Club of Chicago; board member, The Chicago Club; and member, Trustees Committee-Chicago Community Trust.
