Our Mission

The mission of the Federal Reserve System is to foster the efficiency of the nation's monetary, financial and payment systems in order to promote a strong and stable economy.

To support this mission, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago:

  • Participates in the formulation and implementation of national monetary policy.
  • Supervises and regulates state member banks, bank holding companies and foreign bank branches.
  • Provides financial services to depository institutions and the U.S. government.
