New iPad App Offers Fed Information

CHICAGO -  A free application is now available from the Federal Reserve for use on an iPad.

Called "The Fed," this new app allows users access to a wide range of information from the Federal Reserve System. It offers links to the most recent speeches, testimony and news releases from the Board of Governors in Washington as well as from the 12 regional Federal Reserve Banks across the U.S.  Users can search for information from individual banks using a map of the U.S. outlining each bank’s district. Clicking on a district provides that bank’s information. The app also offers easy connections to information recently posted on social media resources such as Twitter and YouTube.

An official app of the Federal Reserve, it was developed to provide convenient mobile access to Fed information.

"This is an effort to meet the public demand for timely access to Federal Reserve information," said Catherine Bourke, a Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Public Affairs Department assistant vice president who coordinated development of the app.

The Fed can be downloaded for free from the App Store. Visit chicagofed.org/ipad for more information, including a video about how the app works.

Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Background

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is one of 12 regional Reserve Banks that, along with the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., make up the nation's central bank. The Chicago Reserve Bank serves the Seventh Federal Reserve District, which encompasses the northern portions of Illinois and Indiana, southern Wisconsin, the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, and the state of Iowa. In addition to participation in the formulation of monetary policy, each Reserve Bank supervises member banks and bank holding companies, provides financial services to depository institutions and the U.S. government, and monitors economic conditions in its District.
