Nellie Liang is the Miriam K. Carliner Senior Fellow in Economic Studies at the Brookings Institution. She also is a visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund, lecturer at the Yale School of Management, and member of the Congressional Budget Office’s Panel of Economic Advisors. Prior to joining Brookings in February 2017, Dr. Liang was the founding director of the Division of Financial Stability at the Federal Reserve Board. Her research specialties in recent years include financial stability, credit markets, and the intersection of financial and monetary policy. Dr. Liang speaks frequently at research and industry conferences, and has published papers in top-tier journals, including the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Public Economics, and the International Journal of Central Banking. She holds a PhD in economics from the University of Maryland, and a BA in economics from the University of Notre Dame.

Anil K Kashyap is the Edward Eagle Brown Professor of Economics and Finance at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and an external member of the Bank of England’s Financial Policy Committee. Kashyap co-founded the U.S. Monetary Policy Forum and also serves as a consultant for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, a research associate for the National Bureau of Economic Research, and a research fellow for the Centre for Economic Policy Research. He has received various awards including the “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon” from the Emperor of Japan.

Caspar Siegert is a senior policy adviser in the Secretariat of the UK’s Financial Policy Committee. Caspar has previously worked in a range of other policy roles at the Bank of England, including in the area of microprudential regulation and the development of bank resolution regimes. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Munich, and his research focuses on corporate finance and financial economics, with a particular interest in the effectiveness of macroprudential institutions and policies.

Mark Gertler is the Henry and Lucy Moses Professor of Economics at New York University and a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). He received his PhD at Stanford University. Gertler has published widely in macroeconomics and monetary economics. Among his co-authors are former Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke and current Vice Chair Richard Clarida. Gertler currently serves as a co-director (with Pete Klenow) of the NBER’s Economic Fluctuations and Growth Program, and as a member of the advisory board of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He is also a past co-editor of the American Economic Review, the Journal of Economic Perspectives, and the NBER Macro Annual. Among professional honors, Gertler is a fellow of the Econometric Society, a Guggenheim Fellow, and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
